ILLUMINA A.D. — Band Bio

Forged in the shadowlands of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Illumina A.D. turns the desert dark into cinematic heavy metal.

The band calls its sound West Ghost Metal—a collision of groove-driven heaviness, progressive movement, melodic aggression, gothic atmosphere and the mythic loneliness of the American Southwest. Fronted by the commanding and ethereal voice of Nepthisis, Illumina A.D. builds music that can be both brutal and beautiful: crushing riffs and haunting melodies carrying stories of grief, vengeance, addiction, rebellion, transformation and the difficult light that follows catastrophe.

That vision came fully into focus on the independently released eight-song album Days of Blood & Fire. Accompanied by ambitious cinematic videos for songs including “Aperio,” “The Black Guardian” and “Crystal Grave,” the album introduced a world of desert ruins, supernatural folklore and apocalyptic Western imagery—giving Illumina A.D. an identity as visual as it is musical. “Aperio” became a finalist for Best Music Video at the 2025 New Mexico Music Awards, while the album campaign generated international media coverage, FM airplay across the United States, Canada, England and Scotland, and more than 2.7 million documented video views.

Onstage, Illumina A.D. has earned its reputation through persistence, professionalism and repeat trust. The band has shared bills with artists including All That Remains, Butcher Babies, Stitched Up Heart, Otep, Upon a Burning Body, Mushroomhead, Battlecross, Gemini Syndrome, One-Eyed Doll, Fire From the Gods, War of Ages and New Years Day. Repeat appearances with several of those acts—along with a nine-show rotating-headline tour with Deep Within and RöZY—have helped establish Illumina as a dependable and battle-tested live band beyond its home market.

In 2026, Illumina A.D. represented New Mexico at Wacken Metal Battle USA in Austin, Texas, while continuing to expand its regional touring footprint and independent audience. Built far outside a traditional music-industry hub, the band’s momentum has been created from the ground up—through memorable songs, arresting visuals, relentless live work and a fiercely self-determined identity.

Illumina A.D. is Nepthisis on vocals, Alexander Bane on founding and rhythm guitar, Justin Ennis on lead guitar, Austin von Hentschel on bass and Dylan Baldwin on drums.

Brutal. Beautiful. Born in the desert dark.
